In 2023, an explosion-proof intelligent transportation project was successfully implemented for a high-gas coal mine in Shanxi Province, China.
This coal mine is classified as a high-outburst mine, with underground gas concentrations consistently near critical levels. Traditional transportation equipment posed safety hazards such as insufficient explosion-proof performance and a tendency to generate sparks. Additionally, the system needed to operate under conditions of limited ventilation and narrow roadways. The previous transportation methods were inefficient and failed to meet the safety requirements for transport in high-gas mines, creating an urgent need for a monorail system with superior explosion-proof and safety features.
Addressing the core safety requirements of high-gas mines, we customized a flameproof explosion-proof diesel engine monorail. It has obtained national coal mine explosion-proof safety certification, achieving the Exd I Mb standard, effectively isolating underground gas from sparks generated during equipment operation. The ventilation design was optimized to minimize the equipment’s impact on underground airflow, and the system is adapted to confined spaces with a minimum roadway height of 3.6 meters. The system is equipped with real-time gas concentration monitoring devices that automatically shut down the equipment if gas levels exceed the limit. An intelligent early warning system enables the pre-emptive identification of potential safety hazards. Furthermore, a lightweight track design was adopted to reduce the load-bearing pressure on the roadways, adapting to the mine’s complex geological conditions.
Since its deployment, the project has enabled the safe and efficient transport of materials in a high-gas environment, completely eliminating the gas safety risks associated with the transportation process. Transportation efficiency has increased by over 55%, with a reduction of 8 operators per shift. The equipment has operated stably for two years without any safety-related failures, earning high praise from the local coal mine safety supervision authorities. It has become a demonstration project for the upgrade of auxiliary transport in high-gas mines, subsequently leading several neighboring high-gas mines to initiate cooperation with our company.
