Surface to underground coal mine

In 2025, a multi-scenario comprehensive transportation project was carried out for a coal mine in Indonesia transitioning from open-pit to underground mining.
This coal mine, operated by a large Indonesian coal enterprise, is in the transitional phase from open-pit to underground extraction. During the initial construction of its underground roadways, it required a system capable of simultaneously handling the comprehensive transportation of personnel, materials, and heavy equipment across complex operational scenarios. These include both long-distance main roadway transport and short-distance dispatching at excavation faces. This demanded exceptionally high compatibility and flexibility from the monorail system, which also needed to withstand the tropical underground conditions of high temperature and high humidity.

We tailored an explosion-proof dual-power monorail system, integrating both battery and diesel engine power sources. The power mode can be switched according to different transportation scenarios: diesel power is used for long-distance transport, ensuring extended endurance; battery power is employed for short-distance dispatching, offering zero emissions and low noise to suit various underground operational needs. The system is equipped with multiple types of lifting devices, enabling integrated operations for personnel transport, light material dispatching, and heavy equipment handling. The track installation features a modular design, allowing flexible extension in sync with roadway construction progress, significantly shortening the project construction timeline. We also provided comprehensive technical support, establishing an on-site maintenance team to ensure stable equipment operation and conducting multiple rounds of personnel training to help the mine’s operators master equipment operation and maintenance skills.

Since its deployment, the system has fully met the mine’s comprehensive transportation needs. Personnel transport efficiency has increased by 50%, material transport cycles have been shortened by 40%, and heavy equipment handling time has been reduced by 60%. This effectively ensured the smooth progression of the open-pit to underground transition, resolving the transportation bottleneck during this critical period. With its efficient, flexible, and reliable performance, the project has earned full recognition from the mine management, laying a solid foundation for our further expansion into the Indonesian and Southeast Asian markets for coal mines transitioning from open-pit to underground mining.
